The Physicist

The Physicist is a villa in Tulum, designed around a single desire: to bring the starry sky within reach.

The house follows an L-shaped floor plan that wraps around a garden and a water feature. Long, horizontal concrete bands cantilever deeply over the recessed glass facades, providing shade, shelter, and a sense of calm. The upper level is set back from the ground floor, creating terraces that blend seamlessly into the surrounding greenery. This horizontality pays homage to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann Desert House—architecture that does not rise above the landscape but rests within it.

Right at the inner corner of the L-shape, a single element breaks with that horizontal order: a dark grey cylinder rising above the roof. Inside, a spiral staircase winds upwards—from the garden, past the upper floor, to a small observatory at the top. Where the house opens towards the garden, the cylinder turns towards the sky.

In the evening, the house extinguishes its lights and the night takes over.

The Physicist is in the conceptual design stage.
