In an earlier blog post, we briefly touched on a project of ours that is currently under construction. It is a villa in Tulum, on Mexico’s east coast. The house is being commissioned by a Dutch family who will live there themselves for some part of the year. And they will rent out the house the rest of the year. The total interior area of the house is 134 m2 (1442 sq.ft.)
Living room with terrace
The house consists of two layers: first floor and second floor. The first floor is raised slightly more than a meter from the surrounding terrain. A few steps lead to the terrace where there is a small pool. Through the terrace you reach the front door of the L-shaped house. In the short side of the L are the living room and dining kitchen. From the living room you have direct access to the terrace through a sliding glass door. On the kitchen side is a utility room accessible through wooden sliding doors.
Spacious bedrooms
In the long side of the L-shape you will find two spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom with toilet. The master bedroom gives access to a private balcony through sliding glass doors. The other bedroom has two twin beds that can be joined into one large bed if necessary. Both bedrooms have a small desk with table and closets.
Separate apartment
The second floor can only be reached by an outside staircase. In fact, the idea is that the client can rent out the house as two separate apartments or as one entire villa. For example, if you go on vacation with two couples, each couple will still have their own amenities and privacy. Stairs lead to the second floor roof terrace. You walk past a small pool to the front door of the apartment. The apartment has a private living area with kitchenette and a full bedroom with double walk-in shower.
